Translation Panel Guide: Understanding the ‘Translate’, ‘View’, and ‘Refresh’ Buttons

The design of ReadSavor’s translation panel aims to provide you with maximum flexibility and control, especially when it comes to handling translation results and managing your credit consumption. When you select a piece of text, three core action buttons appear at the bottom of the translation panel. These buttons change dynamically based on the status of your selected text (i.e., whether it has been translated/cached).

Core Button Functions Explained

1. Translate

  • When is it available? When you select a piece of text that has never been translated before.
  • Function: Sends a request to the currently selected AI model to get a new translation.
  • Important: Every click on the “Translate” button consumes your credits.

2. View

  • When is it available? When you select a piece of text that has already been translated (i.e., the translation is cached).
  • Function: Instantly displays the last saved translation result without consuming any credits.
  • Design Philosophy: To ensure you can review previously translated content at any time during your reading process without having to pay again.

3. Refresh

  • When is it available? When you select a piece of text that has already been translated (i.e., the translation is cached).
  • Function: Sends a new request to the currently selected AI model, gets a new translation, and replaces the old cached translation with the new one.
  • Important: Every click on the “Refresh” button consumes your credits.

Why Do We Need These Three Buttons?

This design is intended to achieve three key objectives:

Objective 1: Compare Translation Results from Different Models

ReadSavor allows you to switch between different AI models. If you are not satisfied with the translation from the current model, you can:

  1. Switch to another model (e.g., from Model A to Model B).
  2. Select the already translated text.
  3. Click the “Refresh” button.

The system will use the new model (Model B) to re-translate the text, allowing you to compare the new and old results.

Objective 2: Get Better Translations with Model Updates

AI translation models are constantly being iterated on and improved. If you notice that a piece of text was translated several months ago and you want to leverage the latest model technology for a more accurate translation, you can:

  1. Select the text.
  2. Click the “Refresh” button.

The system will provide an optimized translation using the most current model.

Objective 3: Correct Errors or Inaccuracies

If a translation result contains obvious errors or is inaccurate, you can use the “Refresh” function to try and correct it. For more details on handling such issues, please see our guide on what to do if translation fails. This provides you with a quick and convenient self-correction mechanism.

By understanding and flexibly using these three buttons, you can make the most of ReadSavor’s translation features while effectively managing your credit usage. For a general overview of the reading process, you can always refer to our main How to Use ReadSavor guide.
